Winemaker & Forum Contact: Alex Kanzler

Winemaker Alex Kanzler produces just 2,000 cases of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from the western hills of Sonoma County's Russian River Valley. The renowned 14.5-acre Kanzler Vineyard was one of the first established in the Sebastopol Hills neighborhood, planted in 1996 by the winemaker’s parents, Stephen and Lynda Kanzler. Here, deeply stirring Pinot Noir flavors come from an interplay of Goldridge soil, Pacific Ocean fog, warm light, and coastal wind. Wines are handmade by Alex, and he applies organic farming practices at the 14.5-acre estate, including the avoidance of synthetic herbicides. The vineyard’s sought-after grapes have also been featured in vineyard designate wines by other top producers such as Kosta Browne, Lynmar Estate, and Arista; the vineyard is the source of over 60 wines rated 90 to 98 points by Wine Spectator. KANZLER can be found in restaurants such as Boulevard in San Francisco. Wines are allocated to collectors via mailing list by Breauna Kanzler, the winemaker’s wife.
