James MacPhail has a berry-to-bottle philosophy and a hands-on approach in making his elegant, honest, and refined wines. With his deep family roots in Sonoma County and his extensive expertise, he produces outstanding and award-winning Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays, having trained under some of the region’s most venerable winemakers. James is committed to his calling to produce the highest quality wines from some of the most respected vineyards in California. Since 2002, he has produced over one hundred 90+ point wines, and gives each of The Calling wines a clear, singular voice, vintage after vintage. The Calling was born out of their founders’ passion for wine and their shared dream to create an outstanding collection of California wines. Peter Deutsch and Jim Nantz both had successful careers of their own before they met. But after a chance meeting in 2009, the two embarked on a new vision – to create The Calling as a tribute to their fathers who were instrumental in helping each of them pursue their dreams and discover their callings. This exceptional collection of wines offers a range of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Cabernet Sauvignon, sourced from family growers and esteemed vineyards in best-inclass AVAs. By sharing their founders’ immense passion, they invite others to pursue their own dreams and to realize their own callings.
